How Clean is Your Mattress?
Poor sleeping patterns result in Insomnia, Diabetes, Heart Problems, Obesity, Stress related skin disorders like Psoriasis, and many more health problems. Sleeping on a clean and aired mattress can improve your health and extend the life of your mattress.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australians sleep an average of 7.7 hours per day. But being in bed for over 7 hours per night is only part of the story.
If you are not sleeping well, it could be that parasites, bacteria and odours in your mattress are affecting your health and sleep patterns.
Of course, buying the right mattress is a good start, but sleeping on a quality mattress does not mean you are having a healthy sleep.
When did you last check your mattress warranty? It only takes a moment, and can be quite enlightening, since most manufacturers stipulate specific cleaning instructions that can save your health and a lot of headaches should you ever need to make a warranty claim.
We spend thousands of dollars per year taking care of loved ones with allergies - doctors’ bills, buying medications, special vacuum cleaners, and special allergy free products. But think of how much the protection, stress, and care of our loved ones could be simplified by doing a few simple and timely cleaning and caring regimens on their mattress.
Preventative layers, like mattress protectors, toppers and sheets will create barriers that will fight away moisture, dirt, dust, dust mites and bacteria in the cases of children and others with incontinence.
For stains or spills, act fast and blot it dry quickly, just as you would a carpet. Do not scrub the stain with cleaning products, as this will only push the stain and subsequent bacteria further into the mattress layers.
I learned many years ago to take a damp white cloth and lay it on the stain...then gently apply a warm iron (not too hot) to the top of the white damp cloth and you will see the stain magically transfer to the cloth from your mattress, just like a transfer of a decal to a t-shirt.
Resting your mattress across the top of your clothes line on a hot sunny day can also kill bacteria and remove nasty odours.
Also flipping your mattress every month can give reduce dust and allow the fibers to breath. Remember, it doesn’t take much time and proven methods are from LEFT TO RIGHT the first month and then from bottom to head the next. This will also alleviate major depressions caused by heavy users.
Finally, vacuuming the mattress with an upholstery attachment will remove skin cells and hair follicles that become embedded in the mattress surface, removing skin irritations and itchy skin and giving you sweet dreams the whole night through.
